The news was confirmed on Entertainment Weekly, with a first look of the 24-year-old actor on set.
“That is a Dylan O’Brien injury that was written into the show,” showrunner Jeff Davis shared about his injury that occured on the Maze Runner set earlier this year, and the one you see in the first look photo above. “You’ll see what happens with that in the first episode.”
He continued, “When we were going into discussing this season, knowing that Dylan had a big movie he was going off to do, we wanted to make sure that Stiles was going to be a very important part of Teen Wolf 6A. So a lot of this story is about Stiles.”
Jeff added, “Stiles is a big part of the season because a lot of this season’s mystery revolves around him. We’re going to see just what Stiles’ friendship means to Scott, Lydia, and Malia. We’re going to see why exactly he’s Scott’s best friend, what it means that he’s Malia’s human anchor, and what his will-they-or-won’t-they relationship is with Lydia.”
Apparently the Dylan’s accident on the film’s set was due to the negligence of the production team of “The Scorch Trials“. The actor suffered injuries because of them mistake of the production staff and was dragged under a car on the sets. This led to several injuries on his body and face and the 24 year old actor’s casting in “Teen Wolf” became a matter of speculation.
The complete picture of what happened remains a mystery, but redacted documents from WorkSafeBC put the blame on the employer, Fox productions, for not rehearsing a stunt sequence properly. O’Brien was filming for the latest instalment of the dystopian sci-fi franchise on March 17 when the accident took place at the Cache Creek airport near Kamloops, B.C. He was apparently hit by a car and rushed to a hospital in Vancouver with serious injuries.

Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien was badly injured while filming the upcoming installment of the Maze Runner series. The creators of the fantasy drama series maintained the delay in filming as long as possible, but, ultimately, production started without him. Now, if recent reports are to be believed, then the actor, who plays the role of Stiles Stilinski, is reportedly exiting the supernatural TV show and will not be featured as the main lead anymore.
As many of O’Brien’s and Teen Wolf’s fans know that on sets of Maze Runner: The Death Cure, he was injured — his injuries were grave, but not life-threatening. However, earlier in April, the Hollywood Reporter revealed that his injuries were more serious than initially thought. A statement from Fox confirmed that the 24-year-old star will take more time to recover than expected.
“The resumption of principal photography on The Death Cure has been further delayed to allow Dylan O’Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting the production as soon as possible.”
Dylan O’Brien is currently in negotiations with CBS Films to play Mitch Rapp in American Assassin, the adaptation of the Vince Flynn bestselling novel series that Michael Cuesta will direct for CBS Films and Lionsgate. O’Brien will play the title character, who ruthlessly carries out covert counter-terrorist operations for the CIA in the book series. A deal is expected to make shortly, ending a long search for what is expected to be a star-making role. He would star alongside Michael Keaton, who signed on earlier to play Stan Hurley, a badass Cold War veteran who teaches the young assassin everything he needs to know. The idea is that O’Brien’s Mitch Rapp is college aged, and the hope is the actor grows as the series progresses.
Stephen Schiff adapted the novel and Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler are producing. CBS Films and Lionsgate are co-financing; CBS Films is overseeing the production and marketing while Lionsgate will release what is hoped to be the start of a franchise. Production begins in the fall, and they will be working around O’Brien’s recovery from injuries incurred during the shooting of Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which had to be postponed to give him time to heal up.
Lionsgate will be selling foreign on the film, and having O’Brien in the fold will surely help. It also means he’s recovering from his injuries. (Source)
After Dylan O’Brien suffered severe injuries on the set of The Maze Runner: The Death Cure during a stunt gone wrong back in March, fans were comforted knowing that Dylan’s injuries were not life-threatening and he would be back to work in just a few weeks. But then last week, news broke that production on the third installment of the series had shut down to allow its star more time to recover from his “very serious” injuries.
Now, you’re totally confused and don’t know what to think. You’re pretty much just hoping and praying Dylan is okay.
TMZ caught up with Dylan’s Maze Runner co-star Dexter Darden and he shared an update on the fate of the third Maze Runner movie and Dylan’s condition, specifically, his face.
“Yeah, [we’re still doing the sequel]. We’ve been postponed,” Dexter insisted about the future of the popular movie series’ future. “Our main goal is to just make sure that Dylan gets better. So we’re just supporting him as friends, as cast mates during this time that he’s healing. And then as soon as he’s healed and ready to go, we’re going to be right back on it for Maze Runner 3.”
The best news of all is that Dylan is fine, and Dexter had nothing but great things to say about him.
“Dylan, he’s one of the most hardworking men in show business,” Dexter said about his commitment to doing his own stunts.
As for the status of his face after breaking three bones in it? “He’s dashingly good looking. He looks fine!” Dexter shared.
